PRP – Stem Cells In Orthopedics

The 2012 Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology went to 79-year-old Professor John Gurdon of the University of Cambridge and 50-year-old Professor Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University for publishing research on the use of stem cells in medicine. This is the third Nobel Prize in medicine concerning the practical application of stem cells. The Nobel Prize, related publications and medical materials initiated a mass possibility of non-surgical treatment of patients with injuries or far advanced degenerative changes of various parts of the body.

Stem cell treatment has found wide practical application especially in neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedics and cardiac surgery. It is also used in aesthetic medicine, replacing or supplementing older forms of treatments.

In our clinic we use various forms of orthobiological therapies with very good results, especially treatment with platelet-rich plasma [PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma], which is a biological bioregenerative treatment. The most important applications are: injuries or degenerative changes of tendons, muscles, ligaments, internal surfaces of joints – mainly articular cartilage and small peripheral nerves. Applications of hard-to-reach places are performed under the control of a high-frequency ultrasound machine. The whole treatment is monitored by very good radiologists mainly magnetic resonance imaging [MRI] and ultrasound examinations.

Orthobiological treatment is safe, completely devoid of side effects. We also cooperate with clinics in Europe and the USA, exchanging experiences and organizing joint teleconferences. Ultrasound examinations of the hip joints in newborns and infants are performed by certified doctors, together with passing the exam with Professor Reinhard Graf. Doctors continue their training at further advanced courses, also with Professor Reinhard Graf. Another condition for independent and advanced work is to perform more than 2500 infant examinations.

Diagnosis and treatment of postural defects of adolescent children consists of medical consultation and the possibility of advanced, physiotherapeutic treatment of any postural defect until the successful completion of the whole process.

Treatment is carried out using the PNF method. It is a method of rehabilitation of patients with disorders within the musculoskeletal system of adults and children.

Our physiotherapists have high skills in using the PNF method in scoliosis. They have completed multi-module specialist courses that allow them to independently conduct physiotherapy of postural defects of any severity of the child’s disease.
